VIDEO OF THE WEEK: YouTube Life in a Day Project receives 80,000 Submissions

Most feature length films take several years to shoot, edit and eventually release, but in true YouTube style, these conventions have been pushed aside in favour of a more innovative approach.

YouTube’s current user collaboration project, Life In A Day, was shot in just one day and less than a month on is already in the post-production stages. On July 24 2010, users were asked to film and upload clips of themselves going about their everyday business, and tag the videos with #lifeinaday.

Big names Ridley Scott and Kevin Macdonald are teaming up with YouTube to turn the uploaded footage into a feature film, and with 80,000 videos from 197 countries to make sense of, now is probably not the time to envy the lives of the award winning directors and producers. Such a high level of participation certainly speaks volumes for the impact of online video and the interest which it can create.

With over 18,000,000 channel views, anticipation of the final result is high, and if it succeeds in telling “The story of a single day on Earth” as it expects to, then it should be well worth the wait.
