Top 9 Tips For Stretching Your Video Production Budget

These days, we all need good value for money…

In no particular order here are our top 9 tips for stretching your video production budget to the very maximum:

1. Minimise The Number Of Filming Locations

The more filming locations your video requires the longer it will take shoot. The longer your video takes to shoot, the more crew hours it will take to film…and film crew time costs money. Decide which locations are “must have” vs. those that are “would be nice to have”. Only go with the locations that are absolutely necessary…it will reduce the amount of film crew hours it take to film your video.

2. Minimise The Distance Between Filming Locations

Where possible filming locations should be closely situated to one another. Each time a change of location is required, the film crew will have to pack their equipment away, transport it carefully, and set it up again, and this takes time!

3. Use Footage You Already Have

Any archive footage you already own can potentially be re-used/ utilised in your current video. Re-shooting footage costs time and therefore money. Copyright issues pending…existing footage should be free to use.

4. Get Approval From Your Colleagues

The “Final Cut” is the final video. Once you have signed off on the “Final Cut”, further changes to your video will usually cost extra. Make sure your colleagues have approved the final edit before you sign the project off with the video production company.

5. Think Hard About Your Script

To make your video last, avoid references to dates and other time sensitive factors in your script. Re-voicing and re-editing a video can be expensive.

6. Film At Your Own Premises

Filming at your own premises makes for a more authentic video and avoids the cost of expensive filming studios.

7. Maximise Your Filming Time

Make full use of your filming schedule. If any spare time appears, ask the film crew to record extra content for future use.

8. Save On Distribution Costs

Make the most of online publishing channels such as Youtube, they are free to use and attract huge audiences. DVD & USB sticks are comparatively expensive forms of distribution.

9. You Don’t Have To Be There

Unless you are appearing in the video, you don’t need to attend the filming, and with ‘online client approval’ you certainly don’t need to spend any of your valuable time attending editing sessions.
