4 Awesome 2D Explainer Video Examples

There are two types of explainer video; animated or live action. Here we focus on animated 2D explainer videos, highlighting some of the benefits of 2D.

If you're looking to communicate your business or brand's value proposition, explainer videos can be a really valuable asset. They can quickly get across the aims of a business or a description of what the product or service does in a creative and engaging way.

Finding the right creative approach for your explainer video can be a challenge. Luckily, this is where an animated explainer video company can help. They will be able to pitch a number of ideas that will work for your brand and audience.

Broadly speaking, there are two types of explainer video; animated or live action. Here we are going to focus on animated 2D explainer videos, highlighting some of the benefits of using 2D.

2D explainer videos are very popular among businesses and brands, and this is because of the wide range of benefits 2D has over other forms of animation. 2D is really versatile and easy for the consumer to understand, plus it can also be pretty cost effective.

Here are some of the Skeleton team's favourite 2D explainer videos and what we like most about them.

1. Google Assistant

Assistant is Google's answer to the likes of Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa. Using AI, Google Assistant can engage in conversation, search the internet and control your household devices.

Their explainer video was released before the technology, informing Google's users of what was coming. It explains everything simply, and shows the wide range of things the Assistant is capable of whilst explaining how to use it. With the brand name mentioned at the beginning, and their trademark colours the only colours used throughout, there's no mistaking that this is a Google product.

So why is this explainer video one of the best? It's simple, and that's really effective. They are introducing viewers to a fairly new technology, it needs to be easy for them to understand.

2. Mint

Mint is a free online budget tracker that takes care of your finances. It allows you to connect all of your bank accounts and see exactly what you're spending your money on, giving personalised recommendations on how you can save money.

The video starts by identifying likely problems the viewer has in terms of keeping track of their money, and then goes on to explain why they should use Mint's app. Clearly the app has lots to offer and the explainer video does a good job of portraying this, without overcomplicating things or giving information overload. When you've got a lot to say it's hard to prioritise what is important, but Mint manage to do this really well.

Their explainer video really shows the versatility of 2D animation, there's so much going on! Something else the video does well is encourage viewers to download the app to find out more, hinting that there is more to discover.

3. Proofer

Proofer is a software that lets you plan, schedule and manage your social media accounts. It identifies your best content and when you should post it to maximise reach.

In one minute, the video identifies Proofer's target audience, what the problem is and how they solve it. It also shows viewers exactly how to use the software and the tangible benefits it can provide to users. This is further emphasised by the voiceover.

This is one of our favourites because it uses a cartoon to explain how the service can positively impact both individuals and businesses, and this storytelling is highly effective for engaging viewers.

4. ChatClass

ChatClass is a digital chat partner aimed at teachers to help improve the English language skills amongst their students. After identifying that one of the hardest parts of learning a language is having the confidence to speak it, ChatClass developed a way for students to talk to fellow classmates, or even native speakers from all over the world.

This 2D explainer video makes it about their target audience from the very beginning. It uses cartoon characters that teachers can identify with, encouraging them to step into the characters, shoes and experience how much easier this service makes their lives.

Why do we like this so much? It's simple, to the point and focuses on how it directly benefits its target audience - it's also really creative.
